new post

The boy who was stabbed spent ten days in the hospital. Getting him out was a challenge, because he had gringos visiting daily they seemed to think that we would be covering the costs and decided on their own to give him “better treatment” and raised the price. After talking to the hospital social workers they dropped the price considerably but still way more than we had. They were holding him until his debt was cancelled, so I went looking for money, thank you for those who helped with the bill, Red Viva, and Cristo Nacion.

Glad the boy is good enough to leave. Frustrations with health care must be universal.

    Hi Skip!
I found your blog through the video you have on vimeo.com. I work with street boys in Iquitos, Peru (only on a short-term basis) and would love to know more about your ministry in Bolivia. Are you with a ministry organization? A church?

I am wanting to know more because I have tried to be somewhere full time to work with street children and haven’t had much luck.
You can just comment on my blog!
    Blessings,

    Hi Skip,
Thank you for your book with no paragraphs! The video I saw was one that did a great job documenting your work with the street children. I appreciated it because it gave a hard look at what their reality is…sniffing glue, sleeping in the gutters. It reminded me of the book, When Invisible Children Sing. If you haven’t read it, I strongly recommend it.

I would love any information you have on street children. Books? Documentaries? Websites?

God has been growing my heart for street children since I began going down to Iquitos, Peru to work with former street children there. They are in a home outside Iquitos in a village called Puerto Alegria. However, my heart always yearns for those who are not there, who are still on the streets.

My e-mail address is kdefuniak@gmail.com. I’d love to hear your thoughts, and even just to be able to pray for your return to Bolivia. Please add me to whatever e-mail/newsletter list you may have.

    Blessings,
    Kate
